This colorful Muscovy Duck appears to proudly show off its memorable, wart-like bright red face mask. Domesticated varieties are often seen in parks and farms, are very useful for pest control, and help control flies and ticks. This Muscovy was near a small lake on Marco Island, Florida.

In the wild, Muscovy Ducks spend time perching and building their nest in large cavities of tall trees, that are far away from predators. Their sharp claws and hooked bills are useful for gripping branches, as well as being used for defense, and also help the ducklings climb out of the nest. They will also often nest in man-made nest boxes.
