Weighing in at 304 and 250 pounds, these two elephant babies are 3 months old at this time. They are Sonny and Eugenia, born 3 weeks apart in January 2022 and living at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska. Their moms are always nearby as they rough house, run and hide between moms’ legs, and pile on each other and rest.
Female African Elephant calves gain 1-2 pounds per day, and the males gain 2-4 pounds per day. Eugenia was the first elephant born in this zoo’s 127-year history, with Sonny being the second.
